We bought a van. Did I tell you we bought a van? We've got a van now.
Over the winter, my husband and father-in-law transformed our VW T5 panel van into Van Marci-Vanderson. Follow the #vanmarcivanderson hashtag to see where she goes!
This is not a how-to post, merely sharing a few photos along the way. Also, I did nothing to help except buy bedding and crockery, so I definitely am not the authority on van renovation.
So, this is how we got her. An empty shell.
First job: insulate. We slept a night in the French mountains on a blow-up mattress in the back of Van before we began working on her. It was froid.
As you can see, we painted the ceiling panels and put in boat lights that we bought cheap off ebay.
The floor is down! We ummed and ahhed but went for a hard-wearing black lino.
The cedar walls are taking shape! Husband and FIL cut cedar panels to size and clad the walls. We knew we wanted a wooden interior rather than the usual carpety finish. My extent of research consisted of pinning inspirational van interiors on pinterest (here's the board if you want some van porn) but I'm sure my husband did some research on which wood to use. My FIL suggested cedar and it was the winner.
Seats/bed has gone in and we've built plywood cabinets which we also clad with cedar. The top-loading fridge has gone in too, plus the USB port for charging stuff.
The cedar is all oiled up and the black work surface is on, along with the sink-hob combo. You can see the seats/bed properly in this picture too.
More to come as and when we do it!
