Expat in France
Blog Expat: living abroad
Twenty Eighteen

Twenty Eighteen

Yes I know we're a quarter of the way into the year, but I've been busy, okay?

This time last year I was living in France, working part-time from home and full of optimism for the year ahead. I had no way of knowing that fast-forward twelve months I would be living in a different country, in a city I hadn't yet been to and be a newly NCTJ-qualified journalist (Gold Standard, no less).

It's bizarre how life moves so quickly.

The past few months in Brighton have been great: I love our flat, the local community and the proximity of the coast and countryside. The diploma was intense, but I got through it unscathed and managed to do pretty well. The next challenge is finding work.

I just finished a month interning at Women's Health magazine which was interesting. As much as the glamour of women's magazines is intoxicating, I'm not sure it suits me. Everyone was nice and it was a good insight into the industry but I felt a bit out of place. I have a few more placements to go and then we'll see what the job gods bring me.

If this year is anything like the last one (and the one before that) whatever I end up doing will have not even crossed my mind yet.
